Detection needs an owner

Security logging is useful only when a signal can become a timely decision. For every detection, document the threat hypothesis, the evidence it expects, its owner, and the response path. Normalize fields at ingestion so that identity, source, action, and outcome can be correlated across cloud, CI/CD, and application events.

Tune with the people receiving the alerts. A rule that produces hundreds of unexplained events creates a false sense of coverage and trains responders to ignore the tool. Track precision, time to triage, and the number of findings that resulted in a durable engineering improvement.

Start small

Prioritize privileged access, identity changes, exposed secrets, anomalous deployment activity, and data-access events. These use cases are understandable, actionable, and easy to improve once feedback arrives.
