Establish consistent service names, ownership metadata, environment labels, and deployment annotations before creating large alert portfolios. That context makes topology useful and lets responders move from a symptom to a responsible dependency quickly.
Start with a few critical journeys and define acceptable outcomes for them. Connect those outcomes to the underlying services, then review alerts after every meaningful incident. An alert that wakes a team without a clear response should be rewritten, routed differently, or removed.

- Name services consistently across tracing, logs, and deployment records.
- Attach owners and escalation paths to every monitored service.
- Record release versions so regressions can be correlated with changes.
- Review alert precision as a product metric.
